In 1986, while I was working on
sculpture commission in Wolverhampton, a friend, who lived just
outside Ludlow invited me to spend a weekend with him. One Saturday
morning, I was driving through Bridgnorth, a town that is one
river Severn, what I saw that this town is located on two levels,
High Town and Low Town, with big vertical drop.
While I was on the bridge of the river, I saw
little train going up to the High Town on a vertical may be more
than 45 degree, pulled by the steel ropes. I was so curious that
I found a parking space near the river, off I went on the train
for ride to the High Town.
It was Saturday morning of sunny day; the town
market was bustling with happy relaxed people. I thought, how
about living some where around there. I bought the local paper
and went off to my friend for the weekend.
Lucky enough, the Shropshire County Council
was selling the school canteen, with a planning permission for
a dwelling.
I went to look at the early next week, it nearly
half an acre of land, on the main road across the river Severn
with run down canteen bulging. The large dining hall, with hardwood
parquet flooring, was ideal for my work as a sculptor.
So here I moved, demolished the canteen part,
built a bungalow, and kept dinning hall for my work.
IDEAL LOCATION AND IDEAL BUILDING FOR SCULTOR.
Place was renamed as Nadi Kinarey, in Panjabi,
it mean 'River bank' of 'Near the River'.
